Fort Aguada and its lighthouse is a well-preserved seventeenth-century Portuguese Fort standing in Goa, India, on Sinquerim Beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea. This is the largest and the best-preserved Portuguese bastion in Goa and was built in 1609-12, to control the entry into the river Mandovi and to protect Old Goa from potential enemy attacks. Today the Fort Aguada Beach Resort sits where original fort once did. The land around the fort is now owned by The Indian Hotels Co.

How to reach Aguada Fort.

By train.

From Madgaon railway station you can take a Maruti van taxi or an auto to Madgaon Bus stand in the main city of Margao. There will be regular bus services to Panaji. Panaji Bus station located just 16 km away from Aguada Fort. And, there is regular bus services to Aguada Beach from Panaji.

By air.

Road or driving distance from Dabolim Airport to Fort Aguada is 39 kms (24.00 miles).

Things to do in Aguada Fort.

The lighthouse was in service for over 100 years when it was replaced by a square, more modern lighthouse. The newer lighthouse is the one visitors are able to climb using the spiral staircase inside. The views of the surrounding lush greenery and beautiful beaches are worth the climb.
